Go Fitba!

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

Local school children from Inverurie Primary School Kellands took part in an exciting, brand new 12 week community project delivered by The Scottish Football Partnership Trust and Aberdeen FC Community Trust. The GoFitba project is co-funded by The SFP Trust, The UEFA Foundation for Children and The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust.

Through a fun and progressive structure, the initiative allowed the Kellands Primary School pupils a chance to enjoy and participate in an hour of fun football-based activity, followed by an hour where they were taught some basic education around leading a healthier lifestyle through diet and nutrition.  The kids then all sit together to enjoy a hot, healthy meal served at the Garioch Sports Centre from the Inverurie Fly Cup Catering Company.

Stuart McCaffrey, Chief Operating Officer at The SFP Trust said “The sport of football when used positively can act as a significant tool for personal and community development.  We are excited to be delivering this project with the Aberdeen FC Community Trust and Inverurie Loco Works – two clubs truly at the heart of the community – and to be given the opportunity to positively engage with local school children to encourage them towards a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Stephen Boddie of the Aberdeen FC Community Trust said, “We are delighted to be working in association with The SFP Trust on this new project and it has been great to work with the Kellands Primary School pupils over the 12 week block.  We are always looking for new ways to engage with the local community and the GoFitba project is a fantastic way to showcase what we can offer to young members of our community at the excellent facilities here at the Garioch Sports Centre.  Participation in sport can bring a lifetime of benefits and we were delighted to help Kellands Primary School pupils to Get Fit, Get Healthy and Have Fun!”

Following the success of the project in the Inverurie area, AFCCT will also be delivering a second 12 week block with school pupils from Aberdeen City.
