Earlier this month Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) and Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE) launched an exciting partnership to provide healthy meals to primary school pupils at a number of AFCCT partner schools across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Over 5,000 meals will be provided within AFCCT’s partner schools over the course of the 2018/19 school year.

CFINE is a social enterprise committed to social, environmental and economic development with the aim of improving health and wellbeing, tackling poverty and building resilience in local communities within the North East of Scotland.

CFINE Deputy Chief Executive Fiona Rae said, “CFINE are delighted to be working in partnership with AFCCT to deliver this worthwhile service, giving pupils throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire access to essential meal provisions.”

Harley Hamdani, Community Coach and Education Officer added, “Through this partnership, CFINE are ensuring that healthy meals are made available to pupils participating in our heath and wellbeing interventions at AFCCT partner schools.

“By providing children with a healthy meal to start the day at our Breakfast Clubs, we hope to support their capacity to engage in the classroom and increase learning. Similarly, CFINE’s support to our Footy Tea projects across the North East will provide healthy dinner choices around positive physical activity and the development of key life skills.”

Aberdeen FC player Mark Reynolds was on hand to help out at Quarryhill’s Footy Tea this week and was able to see first-hand the benefits of the partners working together.
