AFC Community Trust Chairman retires

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

One of the founding Trustees of Aberdeen FC Community Trust, Jim Knowles stepped down as Chairman on Tuesday 28th February.

Jim was a member of the Board of Trustees since 2014, working as a committed and enthusiastic trustee throughout his time with the Trust.

Jim worked with the late Duncan Skinner, George Yule, and Ally Proctor to establish the Trust, which benefited from his guidance both at that time and throughout his tenure.

As Vice Chair, Jim worked closely with and supported the late Chairman, Duncan Skinner.  When Duncan sadly passed away in 2021,  he helped to navigate the Trust through this difficult period and onward until his recent resignation.

Prior to his retirement, Jim had had a 42-year career in Local Government and was a founder member of the Grampian Food Forum, the Chair of the Scottish Local Authority Economics Development Officers group and a past board member and Director of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce.

Jim’s service to his local community is outstanding, supporting so many other local charities:

  • Trustee and vice chair VSA.
  • Chairperson – Balmoral Road Race Ltd.
  • Chairperson – Langstane Housing Association.
  • Ambassador – Northsound Cash for Kids.
  • Fundraising chair – Banchory Sports Village.
  • Advisor to Princess Scottish Young Business Trust.
  • Advisor to a Gin Distillery in Caithness.

AFCCT hopes that stepping back will allow Jim to enjoy the most important thing in his life, his family.

We all wish Jim well for the future and are so grateful to him for his hard work in support of AFC Community Trust.

We are delighted that two of our trustees will now step into interim positions as we undertake a search for permanent Chair.  Barry Duncan, Managing Director & VP Finance CNR International (UK) Limited will be Interim Chair and Neil Hendry, Head Teacher of Inverurie Academy will become Interim Vice Chair with immediate effect.  The Board of Trustees is grateful to both for their commitment during the period of the search.
