Partner Schools Roundup - Term 3

Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes

To mark the end of term, we would like to share just some of our Partner School highlights and successes that have been achieved.

Through the duration of term 3 we have continued to offer one-to-one high impact support through to broader programmes working with whole year groups. Our continued support towards numeracy, literacy, STEM subjects and MINDSET, has further developed our positive relationships with young people.

Using the power of football and goodwill felt towards Aberdeen Football Club, we are able to empower and develop the next generation of young people using our presence in schools to increase pupil attendance and engagement in education.

AFCCT Sports Leaders Programme at Hazlehead Primary School

The AFCCT Sports Leaders Programme allows pupils the opportunity to plan and deliver an interactive session for a specific target group.  As part of this programme, the young leaders focus on a wide range of critical leadership skills, including, Communication, Organisation, Planning, Evaluating & Assessing risks.

The programme has been delivered across the P6, P6/7 & P7 classes at Hazlehead Primary School.

So far, two groups of young leaders have successfully delivered their leadership event to active ageing groups.

The first event delivered by the pupils was a ‘Walking Football Bingo’ session with a local walking football group.

The session consisted of a short, engaging warm-up, a walking football bingo event, a fun game to roundup the session, followed by teas and coffees to conclude the event.

The second event was a planned Health Walk around Hazlehead Park with the AFCCT active ageing Health Walk group.

The young leaders spoke about landmarks and murals on the route to the Health Walk group and rounded up the event with teas and coffees for the participants.

Both groups did exceptionally well showcasing their leadership skills and were a great asset to the School. These events have been an excellent way for both AFCCT and the School to link with internal and external partners within the community.

Brimmond Primary & Portlethen Academy complete Forrest Training’s First Aid Programme

Forrest Training worked with AFCCT to deliver a pilot first aid training programme to young people at Brimmond Primary and Portlethen Academy.

As part of the pilot, pupils received 8 hours of essential First Aid skills delivery, which immensely boosted the participants’ confidence to deal with first aid situations. The training programme focused on first aid skills delivery, allowing pupils to enhance their knowledge through Basic Life Support, such as CPR and using an AED, and learn how to deal with minor injuries and conditions.

Between Brimmond Primary and Portlethen Academy, 24 participants each gained valuable life skills that will serve them well in the future and received a certificate of completion.

Lochside Academy Coffee Morning

As part of the Personal Achievement SQA Awards, the participants of AFCCT at Lochside Academy have been working on developing their independence and raising their awareness of their local community.

The S2s and S3s have been planning, organising and promoting their own Charity Coffee Morning that took place on Tuesday 28th March for all teachers and other members of staff, during break time.

The level of effort, attention to detail and pride the young people have put into behind-the-scene logistics and fundraising for their school’s charity SUDEP and AFCCT has been incredible.

On the day young people worked hard to ensure that teachers and staff at Lochside Academy were welcomed and attended to.

The pupils raised a very impressive £52 at the coffee morning for SUDEP and AFCCT.
