James Knowles

Vice Chair

James spent many years in local government in the north east of Scotland and retired as Head of Economic Development in Aberdeenshire in 2010.

His areas of responsibility varied from the energy sector to food and drink, agriculture and fishing, Europe and helping and supporting small businesses. James is a Burgess of the City of Aberdeen.

He has been, and continues to be, involved with Northsound Cash for Kids Charity over a period of 20 years and chaired a number of groups including Leader, and Working for Families, as well as being involved in national committees for economic development.

Has an interest in most sports, was Chair of Stonehaven Youth Football Club in the 1990s and is currently The Chair of RunBalmoral.

Since his ‘retirement’ James has consistently given something back to the community, and now mentors people and businesses, is a member of the Prince’s Trust, Treasurer of Langstane Housing Association, Member of Board of Management of Moray College in Elgin and adviser to HOMESTART.
