Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) have been working in partnership with Alcohol & Drugs Action (ADA) and Woodside Juniors Club to deliver a 3-month programme to encourage the keen youngsters in to healthy eating, positive lifestyle choices and physical activity.
The Woodside Juniors Club runs every week at Woodside Community Centre by volunteers and Aberdeen FC Community Trust after receiving funding in partnership with ADA to work with the group.
During the course of the 3 months over 25 participants aged 5-14 took part in weekly education sessions where they would learn about the benefits of healthy eating and how to make positive lifestyle choices, followed by a physical activity session.
Dean McBain, AFCCT Community Projects Officer said, “Some of the feedback we have received from participants, parents and volunteers has been extremely powerful and it is very humbling to hear about the difference AFCCT and ADA are making.”
“The young people have been a pleasure to work with and we are delighted to have funding to continue working with the Woodside Group.”
AFCCT is now branching out in to communities to work in areas of ‘regeneration’ and with people who may not normally have access to Aberdeen FC or Pittodrie Stadium.
Programmes such as Torry United, Footy Tea and Breakfast Club have been a great success so far.
One parent commented, “My son is much more aware of the benefits of healthy eating now due to the football plan!”
Another parent added, “I definitely see a huge improvement in both my boys and their overall knowledge of healthy eating and fitness.”
