The Vattenfall Award of the Month recognises outstanding commitment to the girls’ game from an individual, whether that be a player, coach or volunteer.

The winner of this award for May is Martha Paterson!

Martha is 9 years old and plays for Westdyke Girls, within their U11s age group. She also participated in AFCCT’s Advanced Skill Centre, aimed at further developing 1v1 skills, in addition to her Club commitments.

AFCCT Advanced Centre Coach, Rob Fearn, said “Martha is a role model in terms of her attitude to work on her skills, and how involved and engaged she is in her learning, which is such an important part of developing as a player.”

Leigh McIntosh, an U11s coach at Westdyke, spoke on Martha’s achievement “I have found Martha as one of the girls who always listens and you can actively see her trying to improve and become a better player. She is an easy girl to coach because she listens to intently and could never be faulted for her work ethic.”

Also commenting on this success, Stuart Bathgate, coaching at Westdyke U9s, added “Martha’s influence on the younger girls at U9s is where she really stood out – she set a great example for them to following.”

This month’s award was presented at one of Westdyke’s weekly training sessions for the U11s, with a few of the U9s also in attendance to celebrate this achievement. AFCCT Youth Ambassador and Aberdeen Ladies player, Anna Blanchard, assisted in the presentation of this award, discussing important aspects of developing as a player, further highlighting why Martha is such a deserving winner.
