Vattenfall Award of the Month – AFCCT North Region Girls Football League

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Vattenfall Award of the Month recognises outstanding commitment to the girls’ game from an individual, whether that be a player, coach or volunteer.

The winner of this award for September is John Duffus!

John is a coach at Aberdeen FC Ladies, and coaches at the U7 & U9 age groups. Speaking on why this award was so deserving, Jill Burnett, a fellow volunteer at the Club said “We all know many youth football clubs who rely primarily on the support of hard-working volunteers. A couple years ago, John joined AFC Ladies during a time of unpredictability in the oil industry, however he turned what could have been a very difficult time into a real positive and threw himself fully into the role of a volunteer coach. John’s training sessions are always full of fun, giggles, laughter and smiles; his passion for the game has been contagious with many of the girls finding their own love for football.

“The team of girls and parents are extremely proud of John and all the he does. It takes a special kind of person to volunteer their own time and spend it with a noisy, crazy, fun, football daft bunch of 5-9 years olds each week!”

Jo Murphy, Girls & Women’s Club Development Officer for the Scottish FA, commented “John is well deserving of this month’s award and has been a driving force for the U7 & U9 sections at Aberdeen Ladies. John is clearly someone that has gained respect from all his players and has inspired a love of football to many new girls taking up the sport for the first time.”

This month’s award was presented at the Club’s training session, where around 25 girls from the U7 & U9 age groups were training in a fun and vibrant environment.

Congratulations from everyone here at Aberdeen FC Community Trust!
