AFCCT Primary 2 Football Festivals are Back!

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Scottish FA, in conjunction with community partners McDonald’s, has officially launched a new community programme aimed at providing a safe and enjoyable football experience for those just starting out on their footballing journey.

Part of McDonald’s continued commitment to developing grassroots programmes across the UK, the McDonald’s Fun Football programme aims to provide new opportunities for children between the ages of five and 10 to develop their skills.

For more information on the programme click here.

Aberdeen FC Community Trust, through the Scottish F.A. Fun Football Programme, are running free football festivals for Primary 2 children for Schools in Aberdeen City and Shire. The purpose of these festivals is to encourage children to come along and play football in a friendly environment and represent their school. This will give the school, the pupils, and the volunteers a flavour of

AFCCT Primary Schools Football and will hopefully encourage the school to register a team in the Primary 3 festivals after the Summer Holidays.

These festivals will take place at Harlaw Playing Fields from Saturday 20th April 2019 and will run every Saturday up until the Summer Holidays (29th June being the last week). They will run from 9am-11am. The format of the festivals will be 4v4 matches played in a ‘round robin’ style of fixtures each week.

Would you or anyone you know like to become a football coach? Do you want to give your Primary 2 child more opportunities to be fit, healthy and have fun? Does your school not have a football team? Then this opportunity could be for you!

Registering a team couldn’t be easier!
1. Contact the school and let them know you’re willing to coach the team.
2. Get PVG’d through the school.
3. Download the registration form and declaration form.
4. Complete both forms and send to primaryschoolsfootball@afccommunitytrust.org by Friday 12th April.
5. Receive confirmation email and you’re good to go!

Volunteer coaches don’t need any formal coaching experience, AFC Community Trust run bespoke Scottish F.A. courses that the volunteers can attend!

Aaron Scully said “I’m delighted that we can offer these festivals completely free of charge for the second year running. Having these festivals allows us to continue to develop the Primary Schools Football Programme by increasing the number of Primary School children playing weekly football! Last year was a massive success which saw over 25 teams sign up, so we’re hoping to get even more teams for this year!”

AFC Community Trust are holding a free open evening at Pittodrie Stadium on Wednesday 27th March at 6.30pm – 7.30pm. During the evening, Aaron Scully will deliver a presentation on Primary Schools Football, will answer any remaining questions, and provide everyone with an AFCCT Primary Schools Football Welcome Pack. If you or any potential volunteers would like to come along to this evening, then please email primaryschoolsfootball@afccommunitytrust.org.
