Since 2014, Aberdeen FC and Aberdeen FC Community Trust have worked in the community to provide support and opportunity to change lives for the better.

Community is at the heart of what we do, in recent times we have seen how passionate people, coming together in a crisis, can drive transformational change across the North-East. As we move forward from the #StillStandingFree campaign, the Club and Trust turn towards adapting to the new normal with a renewed focus and determination, embracing flexibility, innovation and resourcefulness whilst using our combined role as a force for good within the community. Identifying needs across the North-East, we provide the right help at the right time, delivered through innovative programmes within our three areas of work, Education, Healthy Communities and Football for Life.

‘One of Our Own’ is based on a true story and demonstrates how AFCCT works in the community to enrich the lives of others. The intervention of the Trust in the life of a young child proved pivotal in increasing their confidence and ability to contribute to school. This led to improvements in attendance, enjoyment and performance in class. Happily, home life also took a turn for the better too.

Using the power of football and the love of AFC, the Trust supports our community, many of whom face challenging circumstances, particularly now. Whether providing immediate support during the pandemic; working to raise the aspirations of young people in our education programmes; providing fun football-based activities that address physical and mental wellbeing or through intergenerational support in our active ageing programmes, the Trust plays a key role.

Liz Bowie, chief executive of AFCCT:

“We are keen to tell our story in a visually compelling way, through the eyes of a child. Sadly, we work with children who face huge difficulties in their lives, but we are able to bring something different into the classroom providing excitement as they engage with the AFC family. ‘One of Our Own’ allows us to tell a real story in a way that is both moving and uplifting. I hope its powerful message will encourage people to learn more about the work of AFCCT and inspire them to get involved.”

Your support makes sure that we, as a charitable trust, can continue to deliver programmes which maximise the potential of our communities by improving physical and mental wellbeing through innovative educational experiences, spreading the joy of football to all and working across generations from the very young to the elderly, including those with dementia.

Whether you decide to make a one-off donation or pledge a monthly gift, we promise your donation will enable us to provide support and opportunity to change lives for the better.
